In 2012, our Inaugural Year, we have accomplished the following:

  • Founding member of The Change Place, a project of Social Venture Partners of Rhode Island (SVPRI)
  • Secured Island’s first long term lease of farmland from Aquidneck Land Trust
  • Planted the first public Permaculture food forest garden on Aquidneck Island
  • Designed and planted Heirloom and Kid’s Gardens at Island Community Farms @ Green End
  • Established one of the largest Community Gardens on Aquidneck Island at Island Community Farms @ Green End
  • Qualified for grants from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Aquidneck Land Trust, Seeds of Change and the New England Grassroots Environmental Fund
  • Secured donations of seeds from Seeds of Change and High Mowing Organic Seeds
  • Created community events: film screenings, fundraisers and volunteer activities
  • Hosted an experiential learning program with The Met School
  • Incubated the first community-supported honey venture in Rhode Island
  • Established the first island-wide compostables collection program partnering with restaurants and farmers markets
